My Sim system has a Prime Z370 MB with these expansion slots running an Intel i7-8700 CPU @ 3.70 GHz.
The GPU is a single NVIDIA GTX 108O Ti with (4) ports. The ports are connected to (3) primary monitors and to the small 7" monitor in my RealSimGear GNS530.
I would like to connect a 5th monitor which might be for a 14" display from FlightVelocity that displays a typical instrument six pack.
The only solution seems to be adding another GPU, but I am not sure now after learning a little about PCIe lanes.
I have an extra NVIDIA GTX 1050 Ti that I can pair with the 1080 Ti by utilizing the second PCIe x16 slot but now I am concerned about the PCIe lanes and those limitations.
Will those two GPUs play well together on this MB / processor combo?
Are there enough PCIe lanes to run these two GPUs and will there be any performance hit with Xplane?
Thanks in advance...
Kirk
Adding 5th monitor with 2nd GPU
Re: Adding 5th monitor with 2nd GPU
Hi mate
It is not a good option at all to add a second gpu to a gaming PC.
You are limited by your processor more than the mainboard.
you have a maximum of 16 PCI lines with your specific processor. Various devices use PCIe lanes such as SSDs HDDs, wifi adapters etc, as well as the gpu and also internal comms to other parts of the chipset (depending on what it is)
But it is proably already at the limit and even though you have an x16 slot for your gpu you will never physically HAVE 16 lanes available for the FIRST gpu in the first place although that doesnt cause an issue in most cases.
It is basically a really bad idea.
You could try a usb3 hdmi device but this WILL use CPU power. They are cheap though so get one from Amazon , try it, if not happy send it back for a refund.
A second PC is worth considering.

Re: Adding 5th monitor with 2nd GPU
Joe,
Thanks for the info.
There are two options I will try for driving the Air Manager display separately from the Xplane box.
A USB 3.0 to HDMI adapter is the simplest way but CPU performance hit is unknown right now.
I have a second desktop computer with an NVIDIA GTX 1060 GPU on which I can install a second copy of Air Manager and connect to my wired LAN.
That will take some additional research to learn how to utilize Air Manager on two computers with Xplane on one computer.

So far I haven't found any good explanations on how to do that.
Kirk
just install the new Air Manager license on the second computer, then run it with the running X-Plane on sim rig and it will work !

I will just have to dive into it and figure it out as I go....

Hi,
And if I need 16 HDMI ports?
Do I need 4 computers and 4 AM licences?

No. I have 8 on one machine so its likely you could keep one good spec machine for outside graphics and load another one with all the 2D instrument displays.Keith Baxter wrote: ↑Thu Oct 05, 2023 2:57 pm Hi,

Just build up a machine using a processor with the max PCIe lanes (probably with an AMD processor) (sometimes you have to bite the bulletKeith Baxter wrote: ↑Thu Oct 05, 2023 2:57 pm Hi,

The you can add a couple of gpus. Just don't run any game or sim on it.
You an also add a couple of usbc to hdmi adapters and also use the onboard cpu built in graphics.
A couple of pc's is probably better and cheaper. The gpus can be any old NVidia cards.
Even if you used 4 pc's it would be possibly cheaper. AM is cheap, pc's are cheap, quad head gus are cheap.

I was thinking to just add 3 more RXT 4070 GPU cards for the 12 instrument displays and using the RXT4090 for the XP12 displays.
