I have observed an inexplicable lag on my external touch screens.
The jerky or stuttery motion can be observed on the linked video below, in which you can see X-Plane 12 (on Windows 11) on a main monitor and two identical external touchscreens which normally each show a generic Garmin G1000 overlay popped out from the Laminar SR22 (PFD & MFD), controlled by AirManager 4.2.11 by touch, as well as with a Knobster for the rotary dials. All three screens are running at around 60FPS each.
While troubleshooting I noted that:
1. on the main monitor, the cockpit PFD motion is smooth.
2. on the left touch screen (generic Air-Manager G1000 PFD overlay), motion is jerky.
3. on the right touch screen, a second PFD for comparison (simply popped out from the cockpit and dragged in to place on the second touchscreen) is smooth.
The jerky PFD movement appears ONLY on the Air-Manager overlay. I have tested this on both G1000 instruments for X-Plane that are available in the Air-Manager software.
Is it possible to have this motion as smooth as the Laminar G1000?

X-Plane 12 G1000, Airmanager overlay lag - 'beef jerky'
Re: X-Plane 12 G1000, Airmanager overlay lag - 'beef jerky'
The screen is converted to H264 video and then 'played' in Air Manager. The smoothness depends on the capabilities of your system.
If your system can't keep up, and you have the option to use pop-outs, then I recommend using pop-outs.

That explains it then. Thanks Ralph.
So, can I still use an AM G1000 bezel and Knobster without it automatically streaming the PFD/MFD to it?
I must admit the automatic streaming is a great feature but I’d be happy to position the popout within the bezel manually like the old days, if it means I can have smooth motion.

Rubbersim
Yes I concur. I run 4090 with fast everything and the streaming is sluggish. Mainly on PFD during turns. Very sluggish with Synthetic Vision. Love the way you can resize and fast load etc. But honestly, I avoid stutters, lags, latency, like the plague. Thankfully the nice people at Siminnovations gave us a choice. There is an instrument called generic G1000 overlay pfd mfd. Something like that. There is a checkbox for streaming(or not to stream and use popouts) which identifies it from the older generic overlay. Here is a pic of my AM desktop solution with MSFS Longitude and Experimental Sim Avionics Panel set. Incredibly done, by Working Title G5000, ESA, and SI. Sim flying has never been better. After spending thousands on hardware simpits and outgrowing them all, I am big fan of AM desktop flexibility.
BTW, I still use XP 12 and would like to use it more, mainly due to saved flights for repetitive practice, better replay, more accurate IFR with RVR, more accurate airport signage and elevations etc. The graphics are even better and still improving. Good Luck

The encoding and decoding is done on the CPU. The goal is to get it to the GPU in a next version, but this was a 1.0.

Thanks Ralph. Good News. CPU always seems to be bottleneck in Flight Sims. I love the way streaming just starts with AM. Also the way you can resize. Looking to move back to XP 12. Would love to see XP Toliss a320 Neo panels. Currently using MSFS FBW panels. There are 10k 320's in use worldwide with lot's of documentation. Maybe Tony would be interested. I would gladly pay up to $60. He could experiment with higher priced aircraft and panels.

Very tidy looking sim. You're obviously dedicated!Buckytooths wrote: ↑Wed Jul 31, 2024 6:56 pm There is a checkbox for streaming(or not to stream and use popouts
I'll have a look for that checkbox. Let me know where it is if you can.
Cheers!
Re: X-Plane 12 G1000, Airmanager overlay lag - 'beef jerky'
OK, so I found the instrument "Generic - Garmin G1000 PFD-MFD overlay" which has the checkbox option (to stream, or not to stream). However, the panel refuses to be 'Transparent' so I cannot see the PFD pop-out when I move it into position behind it. (Background mode: Transparent).Buckytooths wrote: ↑Wed Jul 31, 2024 6:56 pm There is an instrument called generic G1000 overlay pfd mfd. Something like that. What am I missing here?
Re: X-Plane 12 G1000, Airmanager overlay lag - 'beef jerky'
Aha! Found the answer - the clue was written next to the panel's Click-through check box.
"Click-through allows to access the windows that are located below the panel (Only in Windows with DirectX rendering enabled)."
This preference can be found in the Air Manager 'Settings' tab (next to 'Home', and 'Create/Edit') under Graphics API. The options available to me were Automatic, DirectX 11, and OpenGL 2.0. The latter was selected, but when I chose DirectX the transparency feature worked.
Cheers!
